The Department of Geography was established in 1958, the same year as the college. Since then, it has grown into a strong academic unit, combining traditional geographical knowledge with modern methods to meet current academic and professional needs.
The department has one Professor, one Associate Professor, two Assistant Professors, and two non-teaching staff. They work together to create a supportive learning environment that encourages clear understanding, research, and practical skills.
A modern Remote Sensing and GIS laboratory is available for students, equipped with the necessary software and tools for digital mapping and spatial analysis. The department also has traditional surveying instruments, lab-cum-classrooms with audio-visual teaching aids to support hands-on learning.
Fieldwork is an important part of the geography course. Every year, final-semester students take part in an educational field trip outside the state. This gives them real-world experience and helps them learn about different landscapes, cultures, and development issues.
